Liver Hepatitis

As we all know the importance of a healthy liver in our body, there are many diseases that can infect the liver. Let us find out some of the common liver diseases.

Liver Hepatitis:

In the case of hepatitis, the liver inflammation occurs. There are inflammatory cells that infect the liver. This is one such disease where there might be no symptoms at all. There are some symptoms in some cases such as jaundice that is yellowing of the skin and mucous membrane. Poor appetite is also one classical symptom of jaundice.

Types of hepatitis:

There are 2 types of Hepatitis and they are as follows –

  • Acute Hepatitis
  • Chronic Hepatitis

Acute Hepatitis: This is a very common type of Acute Hepatitis. In this case, the liver cell gets damaged due to inflammation of the liver. This type of hepatitis is due to viral infection, alcohol abuse and autoimmune disorder.

Symptoms:

  • The symptoms are nonspecific
  • Flu like symptoms
  • Malaise
  • Joint aches
  • Muscle pain
  • Fever
  • Nausea
  • Headache
  • Diarrhea
  • Loss of appetite
  • Jaundice etc

Chronic Hepatitis: The people who do not recover from acute hepatitis eventually develop chronic hepatitis. The time period of the infection is responsible for the types of hepatitis. If hepatitis persists more than 6 months, then it is regarded as Chronic Hepatitis.

Types of Chronic Hepatitis: There are 3 types of Chronic Hepatitis and they are listed below –

  • Alcohol abuse Hepatitis
  • Active Chronic Hepatitis
  • Persistent Chronic Hepatitis
  • Symptoms of Chronic Hepatitis:
  • Ill feeling
  • Poor appetite
  • Fatigue
  • Low fever
  • Abdominal pain
  • Jaundice
  • Spleen enlargement
  • Fluid retention etc

Treatment:

Based on the causes of hepatitis, the treatment is deduced. Drugs are used to counter Hepatitis. Some of the drugs that are used to treat hepatitis are as follows –

  • Interferon Alpha
  • Corticosteroid

In addition to the drugs, there are also many things that need to be avoided such as alcohol and certain types of drugs.

  • Prevention
  • Hygiene is very important to be taken care of.
  • Vaccination is another method that is used to prevent the disease
  • Blood transfusion
